Moselcamino 2017

Moselle camino Koblenz - Trier
In May 2017 we had our longest tour to date, namely the Moselcamino from Koblenz to Trier. Yes, I thought I'd go there with a couple of friends, but suddenly 12 people came together. There were some of the marauders but also new friends from the Jacobsweg. A very fun mixed group. We met on the first day in Koblenz Stolzenfels im Hotel to the crib. As with all tours, the arrival worked great again with carpooling and the train. In the evening we sat together and got to know each other, because some of them didn't know each other. But that was done quickly. We went to bed relatively early because we wanted to leave early the next morning.
1st stage: On the second day, a great breakfast awaited us at the hotel and a day full of sunshine. Somehow nobody really wanted to start marching. It's no use, after the luggage transport picked up the big backpacks, after a nice group photo we finally started. Our first stage went from Stolzenfels to Alken. We came on Stolzenfels Castle over and took great photos. Then it went through the unspeakably beautiful landscape, the Hunsrück hills. We say goodbye to the Rhine Valley via the Augustahöhe and the Pastorenpfad. Then it goes over the Rheinhöhnweg to the brother Tönnes hill. After we had lunch at a motorway service station, we continued on the Moselhöhnweg. And soon, when we came out of the forest, we could spot auks among us as well as these Thurandt Castle. We make a detour to the Trinity Church before we start the steep descent into the Moselle valley. First it went through the forest, later through the vineyards, sometimes steeply downhill. Alken is a cute little place on the Moselle and of course we stopped at an inn to reward ourselves with a delicious house wine for this tour. Of course, ice cream and delicious cakes were also included. Our Hostel Moselle view but was not in Alken, but in Brodenbach, about 3 km further along the Moselle, slightly above the village. What we didn't know Brodenbach is for its annual boat race known and we stranded in the middle of the same. It was like hell on the Moselle and on the streets, like at a folk festival. But first we went to the hostel and settled into our rooms, showered and took care of our feet and then we went back into town to have a nice meal in an inn and end the day. After the first 23 km of walking we were all exhausted and soon made our way home. The next morning there was a small breakfast and then it was off to the
2nd stage: However, we actually let ourselves be captivated by the hustle and bustle on the Moselle and watched the race for a while before we finally continued on our way. The day was again very warm and sunny. We crossed the Moselle bridge to the south on the Eifel side of the Moselle, first to Löf and then to Hatzenport. At the end of the village it goes up gently to the "Küppchen", a starting point for hang-gliders with a magnificent view of the Hunsrück hills opposite. Then we went via Neuhof and the Antonius chapel to the Eltzbach valley Castle Eltz. There was another longer break and there was a lot going on at the castle. Unfortunately, we wasted quite a bit of time due to the inadequate signage, since instead of walking away from the castle, we only walked around the castle in a huge circle. That was really stupid, because we still had a long way to go and we wouldn't have that time. We made our way to Treis Karden via the box tree hiking trail and at the Klickerterhof. However, the path was quite long and so was our accommodation Engelport Monastery was not directly in town but about 4 km outside on the other side of the Moselle. But we wouldn't have been able to do that in terms of time and physical strength. The group had split up and after we had a short wine break at a beautiful vantage point, we summarily called a taxi, which then drove us the last few kilometers. After that, when we saw the distance we still had to walk, we were quite happy that we decided to take a taxi. We received a very warm welcome in the monastery and the dinner that was served seemed like a feast. We felt that we were in very good hands and Canon Joseph de Poncharra guided us through the monastery and we listened with curiosity to his stories about the monastery, the order and his vocation. That was really great. After that we sat together in the monastery cellar for a while before we
ended day. The
3rd stage: follows from Treis Karden bullay. Passing the monastery through the idyllic forest, it is always uphill Beilstein with the Capuchin monastery and the Mettenich ruins. We continue on the Hunsrückhöhen and the meadow path to the old ski jump. Then it's down a road to Bullay. It was very hot again and we often took breaks. We reached our accommodation in the afternoon Pension Moselchen.
In the small pension we first freshened up and sat down in the garden with an ice cream. The nice landlady has reserved dinner for us in an ostrich restaurant in town. We stopped there for dinner and again had a great end of the day with lots of laughter and fun. But this evening shouldn't be that long either. The next morning there was a great breakfast in the guesthouse and we were able to fortify ourselves
4th stage: approach. This should follow us Traben Trabach lead, so we had to change sides of the Moselle again. A small group decided to complete this stage with a Boat tour on the Moselle To shorten. We walked up a serpentine path to the Marienburg and to a viewpoint. From there we could see the others on the ship again. We then walked over the Beinter Kopf to the Bummkopf through the vineyards, then on a panoramic path along the Moselle to Enkirch. From there it went to Starkenburg and then on to ruin Grevenburg. The way was quite long. Arriving in Traben Trabach, we first went to ours Hostel the old Latin school. It was an old vicarage with a great garden that just invited you to linger. In the house itself, the upper floor was converted into a dormitory and the ground floor was a very comfortable lounge with a kitchen. We sat down in the garden and enjoyed the grass on our bare feet with a cold wine or beer. Just rest and relaxation. For dinner, the hostess mother recommended a nearby ostrich inn again. So the day ended again with a very tasty dinner and in good company. The
5th stage: leads us almost the whole day through the vineyards up to the Taubenhaus, then on to the Graacher Schanzen. Via the high Moselle crossing we come to the forest tavern "Zur eisenen Hand" and from there down into the Moselle valley Bernkastel-Kues. There we take another short break before we walk along the Moselle to Lieser. We reached Monzel via the Panoramaweg. Via Brunnenstraße we went to the Minheim refuge. Here you have a great view of Landshut Castle. On the road to Neu Minheim you come to Chiusa. Klausen is a well-known place of pilgrimage in the region. We were happy about a great and promising day and above all about a soft bed and a delicious dinner in the pizzeria. In Klausen we are in the Hostel Eberhardtsklause stayed. There was even a small corner shop where you could stock up on sweets. In the pizzeria we had a lot of fun again, because the eyes were probably bigger than the stomach and we literally rolled back to the accommodation. There the feet and aches and pains were treated and then we went to bed. In the morning there was a rather spartan hostel breakfast, so we didn't linger too long and kicked our
6th stage: at. This stage should follow us soft to lead. On field and forest paths it goes to the forest chapel on Hansenberg, then on a road to the Klüsserath refuge. The route then continues through the Klüsserath vineyards to the Marienkapelle. Through the vineyards it goes on to the Kahlbachtal to Ensch. From there we go to the Landwehrkreuz and via a forest path to the Rupperoth refuge. From there it goes through the Wingerte des Annabergs down to Schweich. Our accommodation the linen yard in Schweich is just outside the town. It's accommodation for travelers, but then so are we. We receive a very warm welcome and all have large, comfortable rooms. A table is specially set up for us on the terrace. So we can end the last day in a relaxed atmosphere. Slowly, however, melancholy is also spreading, because now the end of our journey is imminent. And we all got so used to each other and made friends. Somehow everyone is a bit sad and makes plans for the next tours. The evening is long and we sit a long time in the warm night and review our tour. In the morning there was another big breakfast before we set off one last time. Our
7th stage:
was now the last leg of our camino. She took us from Schweich to Trier. From there we would all start our journey home. We walked through town and through the forest to Quint. We continued towards Trier on the Moselle cycle path. Instead of walking along the road, we walked across a field nicely on the banks of the Moselle until we were back in the next village. There we crossed the Moselle again and then walked through an industrial area towards Trier. We took a lunch break at a bakery. Then we continued along the Moselle to the Trier city center . The path was long, but there was a lot to see and there was a lot going on on the Moselle. We arrived in Trier in the early afternoon and went to our hostel first. Some wanted to rest and some decided to small ship tour close. That was a great idea, especially since it was super hot again. After that we met the rest of the group in the city and went for a little stroll around the city Porta Nigra . Afterwards we went to a restaurant for dinner, but it was so crowded that there was nothing left on the terrace. So we had to take seats in the restaurant when the weather was great. After dinner some went back into town and we sat down in the beautiful park of the clinic where our Hostel Guesthouse Trier connected and let the last evening come to an end. In the morning there was breakfast in the hospital canteen and then everyone said goodbye one by one and everyone was a little sad. But we're not out of the world and the next tour will definitely come.
